Hello there!  Since this is my first blog post let me introduce myself.  My name is Kathy Landon.  Who am I?  Well, I guess that depends on who you ask.  If you ask my husband, I am a best friend, a wife.  If you ask one of my eight kids, then I am a mom, a whole cheer squad wrapped up into one person.  Ask my grandkids, well you get the idea.  Ultimately though, I am a child of God.  That’s where I land, or try to land, when I think about who I am.

I, like you, have worn many hats over the years: daughter, wife, mother, preacher’s wife, bookkeeper, sales clerk, homeschool mom, executive director of a crisis pregnancy center.  And now(hopefully), a blogger.  Honestly, with some of the things that have been thrown at me and some of the things I have done, I shouldn’t even be here.  Yet, here I am!

And so, I move forward.

After resigning as Executive Director from the local crisis pregnancy center, I had people tell me I should write a blog. My response?  Me?? Seriously??  Put my opinion out there for the whole world to read and pick apart?  Nah…and let’s face it.  Opinions are like belly buttons.  Everyone has one.  Well, unless you are a character from a Veggie Tales movie.  Then, you don’t have one.  A belly button that is. And of course, Adam and Eve probably didn’t have one.  But, I digress.

The point, as I’m sure you get, is that there are a lot of opinions out and about.  Why put yet another one out into cyber space.

But, as I was thinking and praying about this, I came upon this verse:

Proverbs 10:20-21 (NIVUK)

The tongue of the righteous is choice silver,
but the heart of the wicked is of little value.

The lips of the righteous nourish many,
but fools die for lack of sense.

Now don’t think for one second that I think I am righteous.  To be sure, I am reminded daily, hourly, sometimes every minute that the only good in me is my Savior.  But, I have learned a lot in my 60 years on earth.  I’ve ridden life’s roller coaster and had my share of ups and downs.  I’ve even fallen off the ride a couple of times.  And yes!  It hurt!

Speak Life

Because of this, I know that an encouraging word can make a big difference.  Proverbs 25:11 tells us that “a word spoken at the right time is like gold apples on a silver tray”.  Do you need a bit of encouragement?  What about comfort?  Do you need life spoken into your day?  Don’t we all!!

Here’s a surprise! Our world seems to just be getting darker, not brighter.  And sometimes life is just plain hard.  So, my goal is to speak life into your day.  The lyrics from the Toby Mac song Speak Life say it best:

So speak life, speak life
To the deadest darkest night
Speak life, speak life
When the sun won’t shine and you don’t know why
Look into the eyes of the broken hearted
Watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope
You speak love, you speak
You speak life “

My desire is to offer words of comfort.  To encourage you.  To help light your way.  Sometimes I might step on your toes…sorry, not sorry.  I don’t want to offend, but sometimes we all need to go in a different direction. Also, I want to share some of my struggles and victories.  And share some of the lessons God has taught me along the way.  I will also throw in some fun things like recipes, referrals, reviews, and such. Hopefully, this will be an encouragement to you as well!

My Front Porch Light is On!

The light on our front porch is always turned on. It serves many purposes.  The light lets people know someone lives here.  It provides a bit of security.  It attracts all manner of bugs…and I mean big ones!  Sometimes it helps us to see more clearly.  And, it lights our way when it’s dark out.  In a world that may seem so very dark at times, I hope this blog will help light your way.  That it will be a bright spot in your day. I pray that you will pull up a chair and join me as I share with you views from my front porch!
